Exterior Symptoms
Cracked Walls
Cracks in interior wall
Cracks in your interior walls are a strong indicator that you have potentially serious problems with your foundations. Cracks which indicate foundation problems tend to start in a corner or at the corner of a door or window and move up or down the wall in a diagonal direction.
Cracks Floor
Cracks in the floors
Cracks running through your concrete floors are another big indicator that you have problems with your foundations. The cracks will typically start from under your skirting and make their way to the centre of the room. Upon sighting signs of cracking in the floor, you should seek a subterranean engineer’s analysis.
Leaking Ceiling
Leaking ceiling or roof
A leaking ceiling could be an indication of foundation problems, as it may mean the joists in your roof have moved apart, forcing the roof to crack and allowing water ingress. This problem can could be both very expensive and inconvenient if it is not seen to and treated immediately.
Sticking Hinges
Sticking doors and windows
Sticking doors and windows is another indication of sinking or failing foundations. This is due to the wall distorting and thus warping the frames of the windows and doors which will make them stick or become stuck shut. This can be fixed by shoring up the foundations and correcting the building’s level.
